Screenwriting
Marjo is an experienced writer both in fact and in fiction.
She has worked as a journalist, communication manager and recently as a freelance writer and entrepreneur. Marjo holds two Master´s degrees: in journalism and in screenwriting.
The comedy series Divorce Party Planner co-written by Marjo Tiitto and Miia Pirinen was optioned in 2020.

Writer´s word
For all my life, I have been an observer. As a journalist, I kept a watchful eye on society, its structures and use of power – often up close. As a communication professional, I have observed organizations and their actions. As a screenwriter, I watch people and their interactions. Often, I also monitor myself.
All this I turn into small observations of life. When they grow, they end in screenplay as themes, characters, locations, and atmosphere.
Utilizing my own experiences cannot and should not be avoided. In my screenplays, I have written about women´s body issues based on experiences of those close to me. I have also used the strict religiousness of my childhood region as something to draw from. Also, my own experiences as mother have an impact on my writing.
The harder the theme, the more delicious it is to write about. That is probably why I have so often chosen to write comedy. I enjoy creating absurd situations around desperate but persistent characters. Sometimes the story is not fit for comedy, and then I gravitate towards other genres, such as horror. That genre too is as strong and as compelling as its characters.
Characters are everything to me. When I manage to create genuine and believable characters with all their faults and quirks, I know I can send them out to conquer the world.
